Hi, I’m Hugh. Sometimes my world gets turned around in an instant 90 or 180 degrees. I can see a place in up to 4 different ways. Each orientation feels like a whole different world with unique memories and feelings attached to it. I have found these flips in orientation are called Visual Reorientation Illusions (VRIs). I have a Twitter account about VRIs and have started a Facebook group about VRIs where many others have joined to talk about how they experience the same thing. VRIs might be created by the firing of Head Direction cells in the brain. You can learn to fire these cells by thinking it and visit different turned around orientations of any place with practice! I enjoy doing VRIs consciously but have found that not everyone enjoys them. I hope I can help others who experience them to learn how to control them and not be afraid of when they happen.
